Collalbo: architectural revolution for modern mobility

An intermodal reference point

The Collalbo Intermodal Center has become an important hub for residents, tourists, and commuters. The facility includes an underground parking lot, an above-ground public parking lot, and a bus station, all complemented by the nearby station of the historic Renon railway, which connects Collalbo to Soprabolzano. The design of the outdoor spaces, carried out by the Roland Baldi Architects in collaboration with the Pfeifer Partners studio, was conceived to facilitate the mobility of everyone through this local transportation system.

Design and Integration

The design of the Intermodal Center has focused on three fundamental aspects:

  • Connection with existing traffic: the design optimizes the connection with the already existing transport infrastructures
  • Architectural and functional continuity: the aesthetics and functionality of the adjacent Civil Protection Center have been consistently maintained
  • Harmonious integration with the surrounding area: the new constructions blend naturally and respectfully with the local landscape

Project Details

The underground parking lot, with its 92 parking spaces, has been ingeniously integrated into the natural slope of the terrain. The interior features lightly colored concrete, creating a welcoming environment. The exterior walls made of hand-packed concrete continue the architecture of the Civil Protection Center, maintaining visual and functional coherence. Additionally, a large system of stairs and an elevator directly connect the parking lot to the bus station platform, facilitating integration between private and public mobility.

Bus Station

The roof of the bus station is a true landmark for residents and tourists. This structure architecturally interacts with the Civil Protection Center, thanks to the large aligned portals that support the roof and house lighting and informational panels. The result is a combination of fascinating aesthetics and functionality.

Above-Ground Parking

The above-ground parking lot has 76 parking spaces and is partially reserved for the Civil Protection Center. This space is also designed to host events such as the weekly market. The long planters made of colored concrete, covered with red porphyry gravel, create a pleasant and organized environment.
