In Ukraine, in a historic building in the center of Lviv, the iconic Cukiernia pastry shop is being covered with a new design, all themed around sweets, which updates its symbolism giving new momentum to the brand and, at the same time, delicately emphasizes continuity with tradition

Airy and comfortable interior that does not distract attention from the product

The YOD Group, awarded for over 30 commercial interior design projects, is responsible for restyling the brand of Cukiernia and its space. Located on the first floor of a historic building, the pastry shop has earned its reputation for delicious pastries and elegant presentation without aggressive or noisy advertising. While maintaining its DNA, the transformation aims to enhance its quality and nobility with new visual expressions. A concise, laconic style, and the use of two main materials supported by some auxiliary elements create an airy and emotionally comfortable interior that does not distract attention from the product

Monomaterials and play of shades. Marble and eggshell

The focus of the design for Cukiernia is the use of "monomaterials" and the play of shades. The two main materials are Italian white marble with warm caramel-colored veins and bio-plaster, created specifically for the project, made from eggshells. The first one covers the surfaces in the lower part of the space, floor, counters, table tops, echoing the cream and caramel veins of the sweets. The second one covers the walls without coating, also recalling culinary art as eggs are a fundamental ingredient

The bio-plaster

An Ukrainian farm donated over a ton of white eggshells for the project, which were then carefully washed, dried, and reduced to the necessary fraction to create a textured but non-harmful coating for the guests. Wanting a warmer shade of white, the pastry chefs from Cukiernia who continued to work during the design process preserved darker shells to add to the mixture. 1300 kilos of white shells and 200 of dark shells created the right hue of this particular finish that clearly shows its nature to the visitors

Spaces and Furnishings

Three rooms make up the space of the pastry shop: the first one you enter with a multi-level display case for showcasing pastries; the second one with the bar counter of the same design as the display case and chairs from the Ukrainian brand Woo; the third, larger one, where tables for one or two people are arranged and a large communal table. The brand's tradition is brought by the wooden structures of the old tables, by the restored chairs reminiscent of glazed pastries, and by the old wooden cabinet from the client's collection. The challenge of the lack of natural light has been successfully addressed thanks to arched openings connecting the various spaces and essential pendant lamps from the Spanish company Aromas del Campo
